Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker’s name was on the list when the finalists for the Maxwell Player of the Year were announced Tuesday. The annual honor is presented to the best player in the nation.

Alongside him were Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud and USC quarterback Caleb Williams.

Hooker has been projected as an early NFL Draft pick all season long, finishing the season with a 69.6% completion rate with 3,135 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Hooker tore his ACL in the second-to-last week of the season, abruptly ending his college career on an unfortunate note, but he should be expected to carry his sky-high ceiling over to the NFL level once he’s recovered.
