It was a crazy week in college football, and ESPN’s Football Power Index is a perfect reflection of how much can change from week-to-week.
After destroying the undefeated Vanderbilt Commodores 59-0 in Nashville, Alabama saw a significant rise in their chances of winning out and winning the conference.
Following a subpar performance defensively against Colorado State in Week 3, the ESPN ratings system gave the Tide a 19.2-percent chance of winning out and a 51.6-percent chance to win the SEC. They now have a 35.3-percent chance of winning the rest of the games, and a 67.6-percent chance of winning the SEC.
They weren’t the only team to see significant movement however.
Mississippi State saw their projected win-loss total dip from 9.7-2.5 (essentially 10-3) to 8.6-3.4 following their 31-3 loss at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs. On the flip side, Georgia saw their projected win-loss total increase from 8.7-3.7 to 10.3-2.6 — good for second best projection in the SEC behind Alabama.
Here’s a recap of every SEC team’s FPI at the conclusion of Week 4:
1. Alabama
13. Georgia
14. Auburn
16. Mississippi State
20. LSU
27. Florida
33. Tennessee
