The Auburn Tigers will hit the practice fields Friday for the first day of fall practice. When they arrive, they’ll be reminded of one of the mostly lovable Auburn players in recent history.
A ’43’ has been painted in one of the practice field end zones as a tribute to former Auburn tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen. A photo of the painted end zone first appeared on WarBlogle.com Thursday afternoon.
Lutzenkirchen died June 29 during an car accident near LaGrange, Georgia while riding in the back seat. He was ejected from the car driven by former UGA baseball player Joseph Ian Davis and was pronounced dead on the scene. Davis also died.
Lutzenkirchen caught 59 passes for 628 yards and a school-record 14 touchdowns in four seasons which including the 2010 national championship year
