Hubert Davis and North Carolina previously agreed to a contract extension that will keep the UNC head coach in Chapel Hill through 2030.
North Carolina posted a copy of the signed contract with Davis on its website on Tuesday afternoon. The extension is for 2 years and will pay Davis a total salary of $3 million, according to the new contract. That’s a significant increase over his salary in his previous deal, which was closer to $2 million.
The deal was agreed to in July and signed in December. It includes a $100,000 annual raise as well.
The contract reveal comes amidst some uncertainty about Davis’s future considering the Tar Heels’ rough 2024-25 campaign. However, a new contract for Davis that runs through 2030 would certainly complicate any plans UNC may have to replace him.
However, Davis’s buyout is not extraordinarily punitive. If Carolina decides to fire him without cause before the end of the agreement, it would owe Davis his base salary — $1.25 million — multiplied by the number of years remaining on the contract.
North Carolina is currently on the bubble for the 2025 NCAA Tournament. However, the Tar Heels have rebounded well from a midseason slump and will take a 4-game winning streak into this weekend’s game against Miami.
