Hugh Freeze and Auburn received some massive help for their offensive line on Thursday evening.
Gunner Britton, who entered the transfer portal after 5 seasons at Western Kentucky, announced on Twitter that he had committed to the Tigers. He will have 1 year of eligibility remaining.
The Conway, S.C. native was part of an offensive line that blocked for prolific Hilltoppers quarterback Bailey Zappe, yielding just 17 sacks in 2021, one of the lowest totals in FBS. He donned a redshirt in 2018 but eventually became a mainstay in the team’s front 5.
He ultimately entered the transfer portal in search of a new school, with his services in high demand as one of the more coveted players nationally. He will now head to the Plains to play for Freeze and the Tigers.
It’s a key get for Freeze, who’s been tasked with breathing new life into a floundering Auburn program. The Tigers were 5-7 in 2022 following a 6-7 campaign in 2021 that saw them fall to Houston in the Birmingham Bowl.
