Hugh Freeze noted that there were definitely some risks in Cal transfer Sam Jackson V.

Jackson is reunited at Auburn with Payton Thorne. Jackson and Thorne both played together in high school at Naperville Central in Illinois. The Tigers are planning on using Jackson as a receiver, as he caught passes from the Auburn QB back then.

Freeze watched the tape of Jackson and Thorne from high school. He believes the athleticism of the former Cal player outweighs any reason to have doubts about him.

“It’s a risk, probably, but I think he’s one heck of an athlete,” said Freeze. “I watched all of his high school receiving stuff, and he caught all those passes from Payton Thorne.”

Both Thorne and Jackson were 3-star prospects in high school. Thorne went to Michigan State and Jackson started his college career at TCU. After 2 seasons with the Horned Frogs, Jackson headed to the Golden Bears. Now they’re back together again at Auburn.

Auburn takes on Maryland in the Music City Bowl on Saturday to close out the 1st year of the Freeze era.
