In his weekly press conference, Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze finally named the Rebels starting quarterback, at least for the time being.
Freeze said the quarterback competition is in no way “set in stone,” but junior college transfer Chad Kelly will get the first crack at being the team’s starter in the season opener against Tennessee-Martin.
“I know who’s going to take the first snap, but I don’t know who our starter will be for the season,” Freeze said.
Freeze added that he’s also been extremely impressed with Ryan Buchanan and DeVante Kincade and he expects all three quarterbacks to play in the Rebels first game.
Freeze: Kelly will take first snaps with 1s today, will probably start Saturday. All 3 will play, competition on-going. #OleMiss

- Freeze has yet to let his defense tackle wide receiver Laquon Treadwell as he recovers from a gruesome broken leg he suffered last November. Freeze added that he is eager to see how Treadwell responds to getting hit and will be relieved when he gets up after the first one.
- Freeze isn’t as worried about the quarterback competition as everyone else. Perhaps that’s because he knows how much talent any of the passers will be working with.
Freeze, on QBs: "I'm not stressing too much over it. Which one is going to emerge as the best of them, time will tell."

- Freeze wants to create an extremely deep offensive line. He shared his plans to play 10 or 11 guys along the offensive front this weekend against Tennessee-Martin.
Freeze says he will play two offensive lines early in the game Saturday. Will have 10 players ready, maybe 11. #OleMiss

- Freeze also gave an injury update, which was positive for the most part.
Carlos Davis broke a finger last week. Had to put a pin in. As long as he can still function, he'll play. Cam Ordway would be next CB up.

- Freeze is very pleased with his team’s camaraderie and said the chemistry was evident in fall camp.
Freeze wanted to emphasize chemistry in camp and say he likes where this team is in that regard. #OleMiss
