Hugh Freeze prepares team for road test, believes he will ‘find out a lot’ against Texas A&M

One of the most difficult challenges a freshman or young player faces during a season is playing in their first road test.

For players coming from high school, playing in stadiums that sometimes have as many as 100,000+ fans cheering can be overwhelming. The same can be true for transfer players that come from smaller schools.

Some of Auburn’s younger players will have to face this challenge for the first time this weekend as the Tigers travel to Kyle Field to play Texas A&M.

Head coach Hugh Freeze has tried to prepare his team for what they are about to face, but ultimately there’s nothing that compares to the actual experience.

“We’re going to have to play a lot of young kids come Saturday and in an environment like Kyle Field, you can’t, we try every way in the world to get them ready for that in practice and things, but there’s really no, you can’t duplicate exactly what we’re getting ready to experience,” Freeze said during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday. “Some of these younger kids or the transfers. Irregardless of what happens, we’re on the right track, it’s just you are going to find out how we handle the challenge of the environment, playing against an elite football team, elite roster and in a hostile environment, we’ll find out a lot about us for sure.”

Auburn has had one road test this season against Cal, but playing against an SEC crowd will be a whole different challenge.

The Tigers and Aggies kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
