Hugh Freeze and Auburn are off to a frustrating start at Texas A&M on Saturday, as the Tigers are trailing the Aggies 6-3 at the half.

There have been a lot of opportunities for the Tigers to have more points in this game. Quarterback Payton Thorne has struggled, and missed an early touchdown that would have been a big play for the Tigers. Fans are restless about it.

While the play is surely frustrating Freeze, the officiating has him frustrated as well. The Tigers were called for 2 holding calls in the first half that Freeze didn’t agree with at all. He shared as much on radio in a halftime interview.

“We’ve had two penalties that have totally killed drives,” Freeze told Auburn radio at the half. “I think they’re phantom holds. We’re getting too many sacks. Payton is ducking his eyes and his eyes are getting bad. We can’t take those sacks. I think we’re running the ball well, but holding.”

The Tigers have been penalized 6 times for 40 yards.

Kicker Randy Bond put the Tigers on the board with 10 seconds left in the first half with a 51-yard kick.

Auburn’s offense will be back on the field to start the second half, as Texas A&M got the ball to start the game.
