Former Arkansas TE Hunter Henry impresses on first day with Chargers

Former Arkansas TE Hunter Henry, a second-round pick by the San Diego Chargers in this year’s draft, took a little longer than the other Charger rookies to show up to Rookie Mini Camp.
Due to other engagements, Henry showed up four days later than the other rookies. However, according to chargers.com, he’s already making a strong impression.
Chargers coach Mike McCoy hopes the Razorback standout can make an immediate impact on the field in 2016:
“He’s going to be one of those guys that will get in there early and start playing. We’re not going to hesitate to put him in there. He’s going to make some mistakes, and we’ll live with that for a while. But as you saw today in practice, he’s a very talented player. There’s a reason why we picked him where we did. He’s going to help us win. I think Philip (Rivers) is going to love him.”
Henry led all FBS tight ends with 51 catches and 739 yards last year. Though the Chargers have Antonio Gates as their starter at the position, they lost backup Ladarius Green to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason.
McCoy and Charger fans have to be encouraged with Henry’s early success. A lot has to go right for San Diego to bounce back from a dismal 2015 campaign, but Henry could lessen the load on Gates offensively, giving the Chargers one less thing to worry about.
