Iron Bowl in Austin? Alabama could face kicker with familiar name in Week 2 at Texas
Alabama fans can breathe a sigh of relief. No, another game with the Auburn Tigers isn’t going to happen, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see Auburn on the field in the Week 2 game at Texas.
Could this Auburn shake things up with a win against the Crimson Tide? One thing is for sure — he’s certainly going to try.
Wait, he? That’s right, he. Meet Auburn … Bert Auburn. Auburn made his first career appearance as a freshman walk-on in 2021 in Texas’s victory over Rice. Auburn was successful on all 3 extra-point attempts, and kicked off four times for 258 yards and one touchback.
According to special teams coach Jeff Banks, Auburn is currently in the running for the starting job as Texas’ field goal kicker:
Special teams coach Jeff Banks said true freshman Will Stone and walk-on Burt Auburn will compete for starting Texas field goal kicker job and will bring in another punter in the next couple of days.

Can Auburn help take down Alabama? It wouldn’t be the first time the Tide have suffered a loss at the hands of a kicker, or their in-state rivals.
