Isaiah Bond met with reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Friday morning and made some big statements.
The former Alabama and Texas wide receiver said he intends to break the combine’s 40-yard dash record, which was set by Worthy just last year.
“I’m going to break the record tomorrow, for sure,” Bond said. “I anticipate running a 4.20 or possibly, if I’m feeling great, I might run a 4.1.”
Here’s video of his comments:
A 4.20 will be what’s required to break Worthy’s all-time combine record. He ran a 4.21 on his 2nd attempt at last year’s combine, breaking a record from John Ross that had stood since 2017.
According to Reel Analytics, Bond is not expected to approach Worthy’s record. Their model is projecting Bond to run somewhere between a 4.33 and a 4.35 when he lines up for the 40-yard dash this week. It’s the 2nd-highest projection among wide receivers this week behind only Georgia wide receiver Arian Smith.
Bond has long been regarded as one of college football’s top speedsters. Bond averaged a career-high 15.9 yards per reception during the 2024 campaign at Texas. He caught 99 passes for 1,428 yards and 10 touchdowns during his 3-year college career.
Bond and the rest of the wide receivers at the NFL Scouting Combine are scheduled to run the 40-yard dash on Saturday.
