Jaemyn Brakefield, Ole Miss forward, removes name from transfer portal

Jaemyn Brakefield announced on March 12 that he would enter the transfer portal just a few weeks after Ole Miss fired head coach Kermit Davis. On Wednesday, Brakefield announced that he had rethought things and removed his name from the portal while intending to play for the Rebels next season.
With the firing of Davis came the hiring of former Texas HC Chris Beard, a controversial hire but undoubtedly a strong one from a winning perspective. Brakefield discussed his future with Beard and made the call to stay in Oxford for one more year.
The former 4-star recruit started his career at Duke before transferring to Oxford in 2022 and has just 1 season of college eligibility remaining.
He made his announcement via Twitter Wednesday afternoon.

This is obviously huge news for the Rebels, and a good first move for Chris Beard as far as next year’s team in concerned. Brakefield was one of Ole Miss’ most efficient scorers last season, averaging 11.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He hit 35% of his 3-point attempts and 66% of his 2-pointers.
And with Matthew Murrell looking like he will be back next season, Ole Miss could be improving their 12-21 record sooner rather than later.
