Since taking over as South Carolina’s starting quarterback, Jake Bentley has led the Gamecocks to three straight victories and emerged as a promising young player.

Amidst several freshmen quarterbacks in the SEC this year, Bentley has proven to be the best at throws of 20 yards or more down the field.

Although he has a noticeably smaller sample size than either Jalen Hurts or Jacob Eason, Bentley’s success rate is much higher. Despite 30 less attempts, Bentley has already surpassed Eason’s number of completions on such throws.

Eason, considered by many recruiting experts to be the nation’s top quarterback prospect in last year’s class, has been hurt by several drops this season but has also missed some easier deep passes. Bentley and Eason did not face each other when South Carolina and Georgia squared off earlier this year but could have a budding rivalry in the coming seasons.
