Jalen Hurt will miss the Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 16 game against the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas Eve.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni announced that Hurts will be out for the game and backup quarterback Gardner Minshew will get the start. This is a pivotal road game for the Eagles and they will have to move forward without Hurts.
In Week 15, Hurts suffered a sprained right shoulder in the 25-20 road win over the Chicago Bears. While the exact timetable for Hurts’ return is uncertain, he could miss the remaining 3 games in the regular season with his injury.
Hurts emerged as an NFL MVP candidate and this injury could hamper his MVP hopes in the last 3 weeks of the season. Hurts has been a major contributor to the Eagles’ 13-1 season heading into Week 16. On the season, Hurts has thrown for 3,472 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. On the ground, Hurts added 747 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.
Hurts, who was drafted by the Eagles out of Oklahoma in 2020, is having his best season as a quarterback in the NFL. The Eagles are Super Bowl contenders and Hurts will need to return to help his team in the postseason.
The Eagles will be on the road against the Cowboys on Saturday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
