Jalen Milroe says 4th and 31 play was fueled by offseason training with his dad
Jalen Milroe look poised and calm during his game-winning play in the Iron Bowl on Saturday. It turns out he had that poise came from offseason training with his dad.
During the SEC players teleconference Monday, Milroe described the work he did with his father over the offseason, and one of the things they practiced was repetition. When the moment came for him to make a big play on Saturday, he was prepared because of the countless reps he had done of a similar play over the offseason.
“It’s funny with that moment, I just seen as a repetition from the offseason,” Milroe said. “My dad and I train constantly through the offseason, and the biggest thing my dad is big on repetition. So I might throw an out route probably 30 times, or a go ball constantly, until it’s perfect, until I can’t miss. That was something in the offseason my dad and I just worked on with just throwing every throw on the field until I can’t miss. Until it’s time to move to another throw. And I think that was the biggest thing with my dad, and I think that that truly contributed to the last game throw. And it was just falling back to your level of training.”
Now Milroe and Alabama are looking to move ahead to preparation for the SEC Championship on Saturday. The Tide are looking to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff, but they will need a big win over Georgia to get there.
“100% that’s over with,” Milroe said. “That game’s over with and now it’s about refocusing and working on cleaning up some things from Auburn and focusing on what the task is, which is today.”
