Former Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt discussed Odell Beckham, Jr.’s number 13 for the New York Giants, and starting his own legacy.

In an article on Giants.com, Hyatt explained why he switched his number from 84 to 13. Hyatt, a former standout for the Volunteers, was drafted by the Giants in the third round of this year’s NFL Draft.

“It was no problem (with No. 84),” Hyatt said, via Giants.com. “I was trying to decide which one I wanted. If I wanted to stick with 84 or try to do something different, but I decided 13.”

Hyatt wore number 11 for Tennessee, but that number was retired by the Giants in honor of former quarterback Phil Simms.

It’s when Hyatt decided to go with number 13, previously worn by Beckham when he was with the Giants from 2014 to 2018.

All-in-all, Hyatt said there’s no story behind the number change.

“I just want to start my own legacy with it and do my best for the Giants in number 13,” he added.

Beckham, however, did give Hyatt some love on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Hyatt replied to his post by saying “Love Family”!

According to Giants.com, Hyatt met Beckham at a pre-draft event in Arizona.

“I was surprised he knew who I was,” Hyatt said. “It shows a lot of love that he has for the Giants. A lot of respect for him.”
