Ja’Marr Chase delivered the catch of the year, and easily the early catch of the Super Bowl late in the first quarter for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Chase beat Jalen Ramsey of the Los Angeles Rams for a 46-yard gain down the sideline, as Chase reached out with one hand to pull the ball in. It setup a field goal as the Bengals couldn’t advance past the Rams’ 11-yard line.
The first quarter ended at 7-3.
The Rams opened the scoring with a touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford to Odell Beckham Jr. on a 17-yard play with 6:22 remaining in the first quarter.
The Super Bowl capped an impressive season for Chase, who last week won the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
Chase started every game, and made 81 catches for 1,455 yards, a stout average of 18 yards per catch, and 13 touchdowns. No rookie in the Super Bowl era has piled up more receiving yards, and the total was a franchise record, as well, as he broke Chad Johnson’s mark of 1,440. Chase’s 266 yards in a Week 17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs were a single-game rookie record.
