James Franklin and Penn State entered Week 13 in a prime position to reach the College Football Playoff. Now, the Nittany Lions find themselves in a dogfight against Minnesota that could determine their final fate.
Penn State’s offense has taken a while to get unhitched on the road vs. the Golden Gophers. However, the major story right now is a special teams unit that had 2 kicks blocked in the first half.
Punting from their own end zone, the Nittany Lions had a punt partially blocked late in the second quarter. It led to a short field and touchdown from Minnesota as PJ Fleck’s team built a 17-10 lead.
Penn State was not done and was able to mount a quick touchdown drive that appeared ready to tie the game at 17-all. Then, the Nittany Lions had a second kick blocked.
This time, Minnesota was quick to gather the blocked kick and return it all the way back. It led to 2 points for the Golden Gophers, giving Minnesota the 19-16 lead at the break with Penn State squarely on upset alert.
Here’s a look at how social media reacted to Franklin’s latest potential blunder at Penn State:
