The Auburn Tigers are planning to lean heavily on starting RB Jarquez Hunter after his breakout campaign in 2023, finishing last season with 909 yards and 7 touchdowns on 159 rushing attempts.
In Saturday’s opener vs. Alabama A&M, Hunter wasted no time continuing where he left off a season ago, capping off the Tigers’ 4-play, 70-yard drive with an impressive 34-yard touchdown scamper.

Auburn’s offense set the tone on the first drive and haven’t slowed down since, scoring on three consecutive drives to start the game giving the Tigers a commanding 21-0 lead with 4:25 remaining in the first quarter.
Payton Thorne has looked like he has complete control of Auburn’s offense to start the 2024 season, connecting on 4-of-7 passing attempts for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns in the first quarter alone.
The Auburn defense has forced punts on 3 out of the 4 drives from Alabama A&M, with the only scoring threat resulting in a missed 29-yard field goal.
If Hugh Freeze is going to keep the momentum riding from last year’s finish and the roster he’s been building along the recruiting trail, Auburn has to take care of business in games it should dominate. That’s exactly what the Tigers are doing to start the new season, which bodes well when the tougher SEC slate of games comes in the near future.
