Why Jarrett Stidham’s ascension to starting QB should have Auburn thinking national championship

The excitement around Auburn is high, as news broke Monday that Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham has been named the Tigers’ starting quarterback.
But just how excited should Auburn fans be? Could the Tigers be destined for a national championship run? As history suggests, maybe.
Stidham will be the third transfer quarterback to start a season opener for Auburn since 2010. And as ESPN Stats & Info points out, that puts him in elite company.
The last two transfer quarterbacks to start a season opener for Auburn were Cam Newton in 2010 and Nick Marshall in 2013. Both eventually helped their team make it to the national championship game.

It’s hard to say just yet whether this year’s Auburn team has the same potential, but War Eagle is at least off to a good start if you believe in omens.
