Jason Witten had a legendary career with the Dallas Cowboys and is one of the best tight ends of all time.
Since retiring in 2020, Witten has been the head coach of the Liberty Christian School football team in Argyle, TX. If the latest report from NFL insider Adam Schefter holds any weight, however, the former TE could soon be in the running for an even bigger job.
Schefter floated Witten’s name as a possibility to take over as the HC of the Dallas Cowboys after the team parted ways with Mike McCarthy.
“I think at some point in time, they could have some level of interest in the Eagles’ offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore,” said Schefter. “Potentially maybe Jason Witten, an all-time franchise great. But this is very early on, very preliminary.”
Witten has never coached above the high school level. However, Witten has been incredibly successful at Liberty Christian, leading the team to 2 straight state titles in 2023 and 2024.
Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, is obviously very familiar with Witten. Witten played for the Cowboys from 2003-19 and is the team’s all-time leader in catches and receiving yards. Witten made 11 Pro Bowls and was named first-team All-Pro twice. In 2019, he was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
Before starring in the NFL, Witten starred for the Tennessee Volunteers. In Knoxville, Witten played in 36 games and caught 68 passes for 797 yards and 7 TDs. The TE went on to be drafted in the 3rd round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Cowboys.
