Social media is buzzing about Jason Witten’s Monday Night Football debut
After 15 seasons in the NFL, former Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Volunteers TE Jason Witten felt like he was ready to trade in his cleats for a microphone.
Witten and Joe Tessitore make up the new Monday Night Football booth duo, and former LSU defensive tackle Booger McFarland serves as an analyst from the field. The team got a trial run on Thursday Night Football, but their real debut was last night in Indianapolis, where the Colts were hosting the Ravens.
As you probably would expect with a brand-new broadcaster, there were a few hiccups, but Twitter overall didn’t seem too impressed with Witten’s debut. At one point, he was being criticized for breaking down a play that didn’t happen:
Uhh, he didn’t do any of that stuff you just said, Jason Witten pic.twitter.com/gkxfAtsCJE

Here’s what social media is talking about with respect to Witten’s debut:
The MNF booth might become good (Tess is a stud), but it’s borderline unlistenable right now. I hope ESPN does some self counter-programming on ESPN+: an All-22 “smart” feed, Le Batard show etc.

Watching Jason Witten talk on MNF makes me cringe, he doesn’t look at the camera ever…. he just talks to the other guy never looking anywhere else ??

Jason Witten is a nice guy. So I don’t wanna day this. But… He’s not very good at this.

I like Jason Witten’s commentary (though he’s no Tony Romo) but every time they put him on camera his delivery is somewhere around crazy guy on the sidewalk trying to explain his theory on the deep state’s infiltration of NASA to influence banana prices.

Jason Witten was bad last night. Maybe he will get more comfortable.

It wasn’t all bad however, some were able to see a budding broadcaster who will improve with each game as he gets more reps.
I like @ESPNBooger & @JasonWitten in this Monday Night Football booth. Joe Tess too. Can’t wait until Booger has to sit on that crane in a downpour or snowstorm though. Gonna be high comedy. Good luck, my man.

The NFL season isn’t even here yet, but I already like this booth of Tessitore, Jason Witten and Booger. Sean McDonough was too monotone
