Tennessee is beginning fall camp this week, and on Thursday, coach Jeremy Pruitt had updates regarding two players who could be critical to the Vols’ offensive success this season — wide receiver Jauan Jennings and offensive lineman Trey Smith.

Jennings, who underwent an offseason knee procedure, will be limited to start camp. However, the redshirt junior has been cleared to return, Pruitt said.

“He’s ready to go, but we’re going to limit his reps and ramp them up as fall camp goes on,” Pruitt said at his press conference.

Pruitt said that Smith should be cleared for full-contact participation in less than three weeks. However, it is uncertain where Smith will play on the offensive line when he returns.

Smith missed all of spring with blood clots in his lungs, but he was recently cleared to play during the 2018 season. Last year, he started all 12 games for the Vols as a true freshman — nine at guard and three at tackle.

“He can play multiple positions and we’ll see where we need him,” Pruitt said. “We’ll be practicing two weeks before we slot him in.”

Pruitt also mentioned that offensive lineman Chance Hall and safety Todd Kelly Jr., who were both dealing with knee injuries in the offseason, have been cleared for full participation in fall camp.
