Jay Cutler, Matt Barkley share why Dowell Loggains is a ‘steal’ of a hire
South Carolina announced the hire of Dowell Loggains as the program’s new offensive coordinator earlier this week.
The hire didn’t create much buzz with Gamecocks fans or media members who cover the program.
But since the news broke a couple of NFL quarterbacks have stepped up to assure the South Carolina faithful that they’re getting a good one in Loggains.
“Just got the news that my guy Dowell’s getting the job at South Carolina,” said former Vanderbilt and Tennessee Titans quarterback Jay Cutler. “While I’m not a Gamecock fan, I’m a huge Dowell Loggains fan. I’ve known him for a very long time. … You guys are getting an unbelievable human being and an unbelievable coach on and off the field, quarterback room, player caller.”
Cutler also offered his congratulations to Loggains on his new gig.
“Super excited for you Dowell,” he added. “I wish you the best of luck this coming year, except against (Vanderbilt).”
Also chiming in was Matt Barkley, who’s currently with the Buffalo Bills but was with Loggains previously in Chicago.
“What’s up USC… Go Cocks,” Barkley said. “By the way, you guys got a steal in Dowell Loggains. I played for him in the NFL when we were in Chicago with the Bears together. I leaned so much about being a pro from Dowell Loggains.
“He’s a great play caller. He’s a great man. He’s going to teach those young student athletes at the University of South Carolina to be the best they can on and off the field. … It’s a steal for you guys.”
