Jaycee Horn may not be back on the field for the Carolina Panthers for a while. It’s possible he won’t even play again in 2021.
During Carolina’s win over the Houston Texans on Thursday night, Horn suffered a foot injury. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Horn may have broken multiple bones and surgery could be an option, which would keep him out for 2-3 months.
It was only Horn’s third career NFL game after he was selected with the No. 8 overall pick by the Panthers in the 2021 NFL Draft. The former South Carolina cornerback was already serving in a big role in Carolina’s defense, so this is a hit to a unit that has been among the best in the league so far this year.
On Friday, Horn tweeted a message to his fans while also sending support to his teammates:
Tough times never last, tough people do. I hate I can’t be out there having fun but I know the guys gonna hold it down. Thank you all who wish me well. I will be back stronger! I can’t wait to be back doing what I love! Let’s keep the ball rollin! #KeepPounding #TheChosen1 pic.twitter.com/sBPG0I5q36

Horn started each of the Panthers’ first 3 games, collecting 5 tackles, 1 interception and 1 pass deflection.
It wasn’t a surprise that Horn was having success after he excelled over his 3 seasons with the Gamecocks. The son of former NFL wide receiver Joe Horn, the 21-year-old likely has a long, successful career ahead of him once he gets healthy.
