Vanderbilt is having a fun start to the season against Hawaii.
After Hawaii matched Vanderbilt’s opening-drive score, Commodores return man Jayden McGowan took the kick return 97 yards all the way to the house to regain the lead over the Rainbow Warriors. It was a matter of seconds before McGowan sliced through Hawaii’s defense and had nothing but open field.

Vanderbilt then converted on the 2-point try to give the Commodores a 14-7 lead over the Rainbow Warriors.
McGowan’s kick return was the first time a Commodore had taken one to the house since 2014, when Darrius Sims ran one in for a touchdown against South Carolina.
Jaden McGowan’s 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown is the first since 2014 (Darrius Sims vs. South Carolina 9/20/14).

Vanderbilt’s first touchdown came on a 21-yard run from Patrick Smith. Hawaii answered on the following drive after catching a break from a pass interference call on 3rd and long.
The battle between the Commodores and Rainbow Warriors has been a fun one thus far, and with plenty of time to play there’s bound to be more excitement.
