Jeremiyah Love made a huge play midway through the 3rd quarter on Saturday afternoon against Northern Illinois.

The Fighting Irish have surprisingly found themselves in a tight battle against the Huskies in South Bend. After a shocking first half, Northern Illinois led the Irish 13-7 at the break.

After struggling for much of the game, Love finally found a crease and took the ball 34 yards for a go-head TD with 8:34 remaining in the 3rd quarter.

Here’s Love’s big TD:

Notre Dame was favored by as many as 28 points in this contest. The Fighting Irish have struggled at times as big favorites in the Marcus Freeman era. They previously lost games to Marshall and Stanford in similar spots.

Love’s big TD run may end up helping Notre Dame avoid that kind of fate in this game. If the Fighting Irish can win, they’ll still be on track to make the College Football Playoff at the end of the regular season — provided they’re able to fix their issues on offense in the coming weeks.

This is the first-ever meeting between Notre Dame and Northern Illinois.
