Jeremy Pruitt was the defensive coordinator at Georgia during Mark Richt’s final two seasons as the Bulldogs’ coach.

And while the duo had success those two years, that’s not all Pruitt took away from his former boss. He also learned about more than just what took place on the gridiron.

“Probably the biggest thing to me is there’s more to life than football. I know that sounds — but there is,” Pruitt said at SEC Media Days on Wednesday. “I’m very thankful for the time there. I loved my time in Athens. A lot of great relationships.”

Pruitt coached under Richt from 2014-15, when Georgia went a combined 19-6. Richt moved on to coach at Miami, where he has spent the past two seasons, while Pruitt then went to Alabama, where he served as defensive coordinator the last two seasons.

Richt is likely a good person for Pruitt to take advice from as the new Vols coach ascends in his coaching career. From 2001-15, Richt led Georgia to a 145-51 mark, and he has gone 19-7 over his first two years at Miami.

Pruitt attended SEC Media Days for the first time as a head coach, but he is no stranger to the conference. Before leading the defenses at Georgia and Alabama, he was an assistant for the Crimson Tide from 2007-12. He also coached high school football in Alabama from 2000-06.
