Their final home game of the season, the New York Jets defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 16-10, on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Facing the team that drafted him out of Michigan State in 2013 for the first time, Le’Veon Bell finished with 93 yards on 29 touches. Sam Darnold, the No. 3 overall pick in 2018 out of USC, completed 16-26 passes for 183 yards and a score to former Temple Owl Robby Anderson.

Sam Ficken knocked three field goals through for New York.

Following the game, first-year head coach Adam Gase praised the work of his defense, specifically safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye. His comments on the play of his secondary begin at the 55-second mark below.

“Marcus (Maye) was phenomenal today,” Gase said. “I mean, there’s two plays that I can think of right now and one of them probably helped us win the game, big time.

“Having Jamal (Adams) out there, you felt the energy. You felt it all week,” he continued. “You heard him talking and he was good to go. He was excited to be out there, I know that.”

Maye finished with four tackles and an interception in the end zone of Duck Hodges in the first half. One of two interceptions for Hodges on the day, he was replaced by ex-Oklahoma State Cowboy Mason Rudolph in the second quarter. Adams led the Jets with six tackles in the game.

Looking to close out their season with wins in six of their final eight games, New York (6-9) will travel to Orchard Park to battle the Buffalo Bills (10-5) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast regionally on CBS.
