Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States, suggested that she wants both LSU and Iowa to visit the White House following LSU’s national title victory over the Hawkeyes Sunday.
Biden insisted that she was impressed with how Iowa played despite the loss while speaking in Denver Monday afternoon. Of course, tradition is that both the men’s and women’s champions visit the White House immediately following the end of the season. Iowa potentially visiting alongside LSU would be a first.
Here’s Biden’s full quote:
“I know we’ll have the champions come to the White House, we always do. So, we hope LSU will come,” she said, via AP. “But, you know, I’m going to tell Joe I think Iowa should come, too, because they played such a good game.”
Women’s basketball greatly benefitted from this year’s Final Four. Iowa’s win over South Carolina snapped a year-long winning streak for the Gamecocks, but LSU’s win gives head coach Kim Mulkey her 4th title in college basketball as a head coach. She previously won 3 with Baylor in 2005, 2012 and 2019.
