Jim McElwain thankful for coaching stability

The coaching carousel has spun throughout the SEC, and even more specifically in the SEC East. This year’s SEC East champions though have not been among them.

Florida has had little staff turnover, the first time since 2009 the program has not had to replace at least three assistant coaches, and that is a reason to be happy as McElwain transitions from his successful first year in Gainesville to building a consistent program.

“We’ve got a great staff,” McElwain told GatorBait.net. “I know a lot of guys will be in high demand because they’re great coaches. We’ve been able to put together an outstanding staff here. I hope all of them are back.”

A few coaches did reportedly interview for other jobs — most notably defensive coordinators Randy Shannon and Geoff Collins interviewed for the then-vacant UCF head coaching position — but they all came back or did not get the job.

That continuity should be good for Florida to build on the momentum from last season both on the field and on the recruiting trail.
