Jim McElwain jokes about Central Michigan’s SEC struggles: ‘Not going to be playing in Atlanta’

Jim McElwain took Florida to the SEC Championship Game in both 2015 and 2016. However, he won’t be there with Central Michigan this year.
That’s obvious, considering the Chippewas play in the MAC. But McElwain took the opportunity this week to point out that his team is also 0-2 against SEC opponents, so it wouldn’t be doing too well if it played in that conference instead.
“You know, one thing is for sure, we’re probably not going to be playing in Atlanta for the SEC championship, we’re 0-2 in that league, and yet I really again feel like we’ve got a real good football team,” McElwain told the media this week.

Central Michigan lost its season opener at Missouri, then also fell in a road matchup at LSU in Week 3. It has won its other 2 games, though, earning victories over Robert Morris and Florida International.
Fortunately for McElwain and the Chippewas, they don’t play an SEC team on Saturday. Instead, Central Michigan is on the road facing Miami (Ohio) at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
