Florida head coach Jim McElwain said on Friday that the suspensions of seven football players for allegedly misusing school-issued funds would remain intact “until the matter is resolved.”

He did not specify when that might be. The players suspended are unable to practice in any team activities.

Among those players suspended is star wide receiver Antonio Callaway, who, in terms of production, has been far and above the rest of the Gators’ pass-catchers over the past two seasons.

Thursday evening, new allegations of ‘credit card fraud and grand theft’ surfaced regarding suspended Florida defensive end Jordan Smith.

This is significant news for Florida, because the longer the suspensions are intact, the more costly it could be to the team’s success. Florida has a number of challenging early season games scheduled against the likes of Michigan (Sept. 2), Tennessee (Sept. 16), Kentucky (on the road Sept. 23) and LSU (Oct. 7).
