Jimbo Fisher insists Texas A&M will get over the hump: ‘I really believe that’

After a 1-1 start that included a blowout loss to Miami last week, it’s safe to say Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M have their work cut out for them.

The Aggies are looking to avoid another disaster of a season like they had last year when they went 5-7 and 2-6 in conference play, but in order to do that they have to get over the hump.

During the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday, Fisher detailed why he thinks Texas A&M will be able to get over the hump.

“Yes, I do. The administration people have been very good, supporting with facilities and support and talk and what we need to do,” Fisher said. “How we treat our athletes and what we need to do for our athletes in all phases, academically, everything. Yes, we’re recruiting well and doing well, we just got to get over this little hump and go on and have a great season. But yes I do.”

For Fisher, it starts with maturity and doing the small things well. Ultimately, though, having the right mindset is one of the most important factors.

“We have to keep our maturity, but I do think we have a good team and I do think we will, I really believe that, but again saying it and doing it is 2 different things,” Fisher said. “We’ve been close, but we’ve got to keep fighting. Keep fighting for the inches and pull those situations out. I think once you get there, then you realize, ‘OK, now I know how to do this.’ I do think we’re close, but at the same time, I think you’re just as far and just as close as you want to be.”

The Aggies have the chance to get back on track and gain some momentum as they take on Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. But it doesn’t get easier after that as Texas A&M gets into conference play where the Aggies will face teams like Tennessee, Alabama and LSU.
