Jimbo Fisher gave an update on quarterback Conner Weigman during his press conference Monday after Weigman went down in the Aggies’ game against Auburn on Saturday.

Fisher said that Weigman has a “little sprain with a little swelling,” and his status is day-to-day. Weigman has racked up 979 yards, 8 touchdowns and 2 interceptions as the Aggies starting quarterback this season.

Luckily for Texas A&M, Max Johnson will be a suitable replacement if Weigman has to miss Saturday’s game. When Johnson came in against Auburn, he put together a solid performance with 123 yards and 2 touchdowns. Fisher liked what he saw from Johnson on Saturday.

“We moved the ball consistently on the day,” Fisher said. “I thought Max (Johnson) did well once Conner (Weigman) came out.”

Johnson lost the starting quarterback battle coming into the season, but Fisher said that he has made the most of his time and is ready to go if he needs to play Saturday.

“Max (Johnson) believes in himself,” Fisher said. “That’s one of the things I love about him. He practiced and competed to be ready to play. He never lost confidence.”

Texas A&M will have another test on Saturday as it takes on Arkansas, which is coming off a close loss to LSU.
