Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher had high praise for sophomore defensive lineman Walter Nolen following the Aggies’ 52-10 romp over New Mexico on Saturday.
Fisher focused on Nolen’s skills and development. “He’s disruptive,” said Fisher Monday. “He can rush the passer as an inside guy. His hands and stuff, he’s getting better and better and better. I thought he played a great game. He’s disruptive and productive.”

Nolen, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 290 pounds, had 2 solo tackles and assisted on 5 others against New Mexico. One of the tackles was for a loss. In 10 games last season Nolen was in on 29 tackles; 17 solo and 12 assists. He had 2.54 tackles for loss with 1 sack and 1 fumble return.
The A&M defense held the Lobos to 222 yards of total offense, 91 on the ground.
Nolen and the Aggies defense will face their first road test of the season this Saturday when they travel to Hard Rock Stadium to face the Miami Hurricanes. The Hurricanes put up nearly 500 yards of total offense in a 38-3 win over the Miami OH RedHawks in their season opener.
An early season road game against a quality opponent will tell us a lot about the Texas A&M defense.
