Jimbo Fisher had a chance to speak with Terry Bowden last week as Texas A&M met the former Auburn coach now leading Louisiana-Monroe.
Fisher reflected on his time at Auburn on Wednesday on the SEC coaches media teleconference as the Aggies face the Tigers this week.
“We got a chance a little bit before the game at midfield and got a chance to reminisce,” Fisher said. “He was my coach, man. He recruited me. They were like family, and I was like family to them. Just have some great memories and talks and the old things we used to do. We were sitting there bragging about how many years ago when we started in college and we’re fortunate enough at our ages to still be doing it at the levels we’re doing it at, and very fortunate to be part of the game.”
Fisher was the Auburn quarterbacks coach from 1993-98.
Fisher said he owes a huge part of that to Bowden and his family, and the opportunities they gave him.
“I have some Auburn roots, we had some great times there,” Fisher said. “We had a great run, won 20 in a row while we were there. Had some great players. Runnerup in SEC Championship, 2 years in a row, we were on probation, won 20 out of 22 games, 21-2. Won 20 in a row. Great memories, great players, great people. Have a lot of respect for Auburn, always have and know what kind of team and program they have.”
