JJ Pegues enters the other side of a team’s “Super Bowl” when he returns to Auburn on Saturday.
Pegues, who played for Auburn in 2020 and 2021, returns to Jordan-Hare Stadium for the first time since he transferred to Ole Miss in 2022. Ironically, his last time playing for Auburn against Ole Miss in that stadium during the 2021 was considered like a Super Bowl. The Tigers beat the No. 11-ranked Rebels 31-20 in that game.
“So you know, we knew they were coming to a hostile environment, so again, we used the energy against them,” Pegues told reporters on Tuesday.
However, Pegues sees his Rebels squad as ready for the challenge at Auburn on Saturday. The Tigers (3-3) dominated non-conference opponents at home and hung with No. 1 Georgia in a 27-20 defeat at home on September 30. Ole Miss (5-1) sees a third-straight win after beating Arkansas and LSU recently.
“I feel like this year and this team, we blocked out so much noise from the outside,” Pegues said. “So I feel like it’s a great advantage for us.”
For Pegues, he wants to treat this week “like any other week”, similar to how he handled things on the opposite side with Auburn in 2021.
“I know coach talked to me, and he was just telling me just treat it as any other game and any other week and go dominate and do what I do,” Pegues said. “And it’s just going to be great. A lot of emotions going in, but at the end of the day we got to go in there in a hostile environment and get a win.”
