During his weekly press conference on Monday, Mississippi State coach Joe Moorhead announced that running back Kareem Walker will not play this year and will take an academic redshirt.

Walker, a four-star recruit out of Wayne, NJ in the 2016 class, originally signed with Michigan where, when entering as a freshman, he stated, “I’m not riding the bench. I came in to be ready.” That didn’t turn out to be the case as he did not receive any carries until his sophomore season in 2017, when he rushed for 68 yards on 20 attempts and a touchdown for the Wolverines.

In the summer of 2018, Walker transferred to Fort Scott Community College in Kansas. During the 2018 season, the 6-foot-1 220-pound running back rushed for 207 yards and a touchdown on 64 attempts.

Walker hasn’t found playing time for the Bulldogs this season, sitting behind Kylin Hill, Nick Gibson and Lee Witherspoon on the depth chart.
