Joe Tessitore is know for energetic calls during college football games. It’s drawn such attention that he’s even developed a nickname, “The Joe Tess Effect” as games as routinely become more exciting — and have seemingly closer plays — with him in the booth.
Nicknames were also on his mind as Ray Davis carved up the Florida defense in the first half. Tessitore dropped a “Sweet Baby Ray” and “All Day Ray,” were easy for him as Tessitore is also well-known for his calls on boxing broadcasts.
Davis had a huge 1st half for the Cats, as he had 11 carries for 206 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown, a career long, with about 7 minutes remaining. Kentucky led 23-7 at halftime.
The theme from fans during the game was Tessitore was “over the top” and “unnecessary” and one pointed out, “You ain’t Gus Johnson bro.”
