There wasn’t a single team in college football that has had a bigger moment in 2023 than the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night.  While Colorado has been incredible and the talk of college football the first 2 weeks of the season, Texas sent the biggest statement of the early part of the season with the 34-24 win at Alabama.

While everyone is asking “Is Texas back?,” Joel Klatt had another question to ask about Texas that might be more important.

“Texas is an elite team this year, that is the question we should ask ourself every year,” Klatt said. “Not is Texas back, is Texas elite this year? That is why I put them at 3 in my rankings. I couldn’t really put them above UGA, thought about putting them over Michigan. I really did, I probably should have, but I didn’t.”

One point Klatt made about Texas is throughout the past few years, they have played to their level of competition. Even this year, the Longhorns have done that to an extent. As great as they looked against Alabama, they were pretty sluggish in the opener against Rice.

However, for Texas moving forward, Klatt said the Longhorns have one of the easiest paths to the college football playoff. Outside of Georgia and maybe Florida State, Texas has the type of schedule that could send the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff.
