Joel Klatt suggests how Georgia can take back NIL leverage from Carson Beck

Joel Klatt on Monday’s edition of The Next Round offered his insight about how Georgia can use NIL leverage against Carson Beck to keep the quarterback from leaving Athens.
It’s been reported that Beck has asked for $4 million from NIL/collective to come back to Georgia next season. Beck is playing in the Orange Bowl, but is unsure about returning for another year with the Bulldogs.
If Klatt were in charge of collectives he would take a different approach. It’s similar to how coaches try to use job offers to leverage contract extensions.
“I think that if I was a collective, I would be having these kids sign multiple year contracts with non-competes and an exclusivity and that’s the real world. That’s what they would have to deal with in the future, rather than these like every year deals,” said Klatt. “In some ways, I would do with Carson Beck what I would hope to do with a coach who’s holding me over the coals. When Jimbo Fisher comes in and says, ‘LSU wants to hire me.’ I’d be like, ‘Go Tigers. Good luck Carson, then don’t play for us.”

With Beck’s future with Georgia uncertain, the Bulldogs face Florida State in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30.
