Joey Gatewood reportedly leaning toward intriguing transfer destination

Published:
Joey Gatewood was battling Penn State transfer Will Levis and Beau Allen for the starting quarterback job at Kentucky this season.
Levis won the job this week, and that led Gatewood to enter the NCAA transfer portal for the second time in his career, after he originally transferred to Kentucky from Auburn ahead of the 2020 season.
Now, according to Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports, an interesting potential landing spot has emerged. Per Zenitz, the likely new school for Gatewood is UCF, where former Auburn coach Gus Malzahn happens to be in charge now:
UCF has emerged as the likely landing spot for former Auburn and Kentucky QB Joey Gatewood, sources tell @On3sports.
Would reunite him with Gus Malzahn. Is also only about two hours away from his hometown of Jacksonville. https://t.co/87jNHJPv4F pic.twitter.com/mEEiIipB6a

Gatewood played for Malzahn to start his career at Auburn. He didn’t win the starting job on The Plains.
The Knights have Dillon Gabriel returning at QB, so it’s unlikely Gatewood would start at UCF either. Could this be a move for the 2022 season, potentially, though?
