John Calipari issues message to Kentucky fans ahead of 2022-23 season opener
Kentucky coach John Calipari is asking Wildcats basketball fans to do something they aren’t used to doing and, really, aren’t very good at doing.
He’s asking them to be a little patient, and he’s asking for this before the season even starts.
John Calipari urging patience with his new squad: "We're not where we need to be right now. And I'm looking at November and December saying, we could be a little shaky."
Says hopefully the injury bug "hit us early this year" unlike last year. https://t.co/o7C3zOEGIo

“We’re not where we need to be right now. And I’m looking at November and December saying, we could be a little shaky,” said Calipari, who hopes the injury bug “hit us early this year,” instead of last year at the most crucial times of the season.

Calipari was brutally honest, as he often is, when giving his outlook for the 2022-23 team. He knows the Wildcats have big-time potential but also knows they aren’t there yet as the regular season beckons — not even close.
“I like the pieces,” he said. “But let me explain to you, and you know I’m honest about stuff. What we’re building to, these guys are doing everything. … But what we have to do to win at the highest level is going to take a little time.”
Calipari outlined his long-term vision for this season.
“Every day, get better. The picture of this is that January, February we have to be at our best,” said Calipari. “Good group. Let’s have some fun. Let me coach. Let me cheer these guys on. Let our fans enjoy the ride.”
