John Emery to miss start of the season despite public praise from Brian Kelly, per report

John Emery is set to miss the start of the season because of previous academic issues that date back to his absence last season.
Brody Miller of The Athletic reported that Emery has been suspended for 2 games, but that Emery is still attempting to appeal the suspension and reduce it. The report also suggested that sources maintained that Emery has been in good standing since new LSU coach Brian Kelly took over. Kelly has publicly praised Emery’s progress and on Saturday said that he expected Emery to be a part of what the team does this season.
“He is in good standing in football,” Kelly said. “So everything he’s done, he’s done a great job with us.”
#LSU sources are adamant John Emery has done everything right, including academically, since Brian Kelly took over and there are no issues with him from new staff.

Emery has played in 19 games in his LSU career with 566 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns, but sat out the 2021 season.
LSU’s first 2 games are Florida State on Sept. 4 at the Mercedes Superdome in New Orleans, and then Southern on Sept. 10. Emery 2 years ago appeared in 9 games, and started 3 times. In that season, he was second on the team in rushing with 378 yards and 3 TDs. Against Vanderbilt, he produced 103 yards and a TD on 12 carries.
