The Oklahoma Sooners were in a tougher-than-expected game on Saturday night at home against New Mexico when John Mateer came through with a big play.
Midway through the third quarter, with the Sooners hanging on to a 7-6 lead, Mateer found his star receiver, Isaiah Sategna, on a 53-yard pass to extend the lead to eight points.

The Sooners’ offense struggled last week in the road loss to Michigan, as Mateer finished 17-of-33 for 189 yards and an interception. It has been more of the same for the team on Saturday night, as the Sooners aren’t getting anything out of the running game either.
For Oklahoma coach Brent Venables, he has to be hoping that the drive can finally help the offense get in a rhythm and start playing complementary football.
Oklahoma has a defense that is talented enough to compete in the SEC and for a spot in the College Football Playoff. The offense has to figure it out quickly, as the schedule is about to get much tougher. Next week, the Sooners travel to Georgia to take on the No. 2 team in the country. Then, after a bye, it will be the annual rivalry game against the No. 1 team in the country, Texas.
