Johni Broome continues to dominate while helping Auburn continue to dominate, and Saturday provided another example of that.

The Tigers’ all-world talent became the 12th player in Auburn basketball history to reach the 1,500-point milestone, and he did it while helping the top-ranked Tigers fend off pesky Georgia, 82-70, on the Plains. Broome poured in 31 points while adding 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks as Auburn improved to 25-2 overall and 13-1 in the rugged SEC.

And as the senior forward claimed yet another milestone in a season of them, he is nearing another one. With Saturday’s dominant performance on the scoring sheet and on the boards, Broome now has 17 double-doubles this season for the Tigers. Broome is now 1 double-double away from tying Auburn’s all-time single-season record, which is held by Mike Mitchell, who had 18 of them all the way back in the 1974-75 season.

With a few more weeks still left in the regular season before we get to the SEC Tournament, Broome has a great chance to equal and break that double-double record. The next team in his and his team’s way is No. 24 Ole Miss, which comes to the Plains for a Wednesday night showdown.
