No one saw something like that coming.
That’s the message Johnny Manziel gave reporters earlier this week about former Texas A&M teammate Thomas Johnson who shockingly stabbed and killed a jogger in Dallas on Monday.
Johnson withdrew from Texas A&M and left the team as a freshman in December 2012 a few weeks after he was reported missing on campus before being found in his hometown.
“I don’t think anybody that was ever there in the locker room with T.J. ever would’ve thought anything like that,” Manziel said, according to Northeast Ohio Media Group.
Johnson’s been a recluse since leaving school and hasn’t stayed in contact with former Texas A&M teammates. According to a report from ESPN’s Outside The Lines obtained through a former assistant coach, Johnson believed he was Jesus, but no one thought he would turn to violence.
Obviously, Johnson had mental issues that weren’t properly addressed.
“I haven’t heard from Thomas in quite a long time, and it was a very freak thing how he did leave the program,” Manziel said. “So I feel terrible for everyone involved and I don’t know how much more I can say than that… My thoughts and prayers go out toward whoever’s family it was.”
