Josh Heupel knows his Tennessee Volunteers still have a long way to go in 2022.

While praising his players for all they have accomplished to this point, Heupel stressed that being No. 1 in November is not all that important.

“I don’t remember who was No. 1 this time last year,” said Heupel. “That’s not something people remember. Proud of our guys but we’ve got a lot of work to do.”

Heupel’s Volunteers are a perfect 8-0 on the season, with signature wins over Florida, LSU, Alabama, and Kentucky. That success led the College Football Playoff Committee to rank the Vols No. 1 in the initial CFP rankings.

Heupel is not content with simply being No. 1 in November.

The Vols will have a chance to show they deserve the No. 1 spot in Week 10 when they travel to Athens to take on the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs.
